we hope your number is a winner too!

As 2023 quickly approaches, we're making plans to renovate and restore the Infield of Silver Creek #1. Since 2012, our Volunteers have worked to renovate our first field. In September of 1959 it existed on a sheet of paper. A dream. A dream made real by the hard work, donated time and a fleet of equipment that reshaped Mr. Fluck's Vegetable Farm into two low hills. The same hills that allow our fields to take advantage of the prevailing winds to dry the infield mix and grass after the rain.

Since opening 62 years ago, SC#1 has conservatively hosted over 2,000 games, provided one of the finest playing experiences in 4 Counties, and has been maintained without municipal funding. How? Through the Sweat Equity of our Volunteers.

"The term sweat equity refers to a person's contribution toward a project or community institution. Sweat equity is not monetary and, in most cases, comes in the form of physical labor, mental effort, and time."

As 2022 comes to a close and we plan for 2023, we want to invite you to participate in a Capital Campaign to renovate the infield of SC #1. Past projects have worked to correct outfield drainage while creating improved infield crown. The formation of lips of sandy soil around the arc and the interior have created a bowl effect that causes the puddling that can be seen after even a small rainstorm. And we have calculated that the number of man hours and fuel used to restore the field is a cost that we need to address. We're also working to improve on field access to water so that we can better address dry, cracked conditions as well as mound restoration between games. This would take the form of a water line that would run to the rear of the mound, similar to the sub surface spigot that you have likely seen during IronPigs Games.

Additionally, we're budgeting further out to acquire purpose built infield groomers that will prevent these drainage lips from reforming while maintaining the playing skin of all 4 of our Baseball, Softball and Tee-Fields. The ABI Force Z-23 is a machine that we've seen in action and we're always trying to streamline our fuel, equipment and storage options. By the time we gas up tractors, leaf blowers and Gators, we could combine those grooming tasks on one engine that delivers on faster recovery on all of our fields.

We're currently entertaining quotes with the following scope of work to begin in time for Spring 2024.

Scope of work:
  • Remove existing vegetation from infield, apron and approx. 12 ft on arc
  • Remove existing infield mix to prep for 2-inch cap approx. 100 tons
  • Establish new grades on turf areas tying into existing outfield elevations
  • Incorporate new topsoil as needed in turf areas
  • Establish new infield skin grades, 2 inches below final elevations
  • Install DuraEdge Classic on infield, baselines, home plate approximately 100 tons
  • Laser grade all areas to ensure positive surface drainage
  • Rebuild mound and plate with DuraPitch Premium and DuraEdge Classic
  • Install pitching rubber, home plate, anchors, bases
  • Install big roll fescue sod on all prepped areas, approx. 14,000 ft2

Our first deposit into the fund for this project will be the $5,000 we were awarded for a Facilities Grant by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. IronPigs Charities has been very generous not only with this grant, but also with their knowledge of field maintenance. Their visit to Silver Creek in June 2022 helped our Officers, Trustees and Coaches to better understand that even commercial baseball operations have to address capital expenses carefully and with clear priorities.

This community has always supported Silver Creek, and we have been fortunate through what were very difficult years for public facilities. We're grateful to anyone who takes this opportunity to buy 1 for $25, or more than one, 2023 calendar for a holiday gift. We're grateful to the parents who buy one of the famous Silver Creek Cheeseburgers from a snack stand. And we're grateful for the men and women who love motorcycles, Classic Cars and a game of Cornhole too. We count on you and we work to be a Baseball Organization worthy of that trust. Let us know if you can help, and thank you for helping to make "A Place for the Kids and for all Our Families..." a part of all of our lives..

Silver Creek Athletic Association's Mission

SCAA is a multi-generational organization that was founded nearly 70 years ago to establish, promote and maintain baseball and softball opportunities for the children of Springfield Township and the Upper Bucks County Region of Pennsylvania. Our efforts have spanned not only decades, but also the lives of area athletes, their families support and many changes in society. Fair Competition, Sportsmanship and Fellowship are the foundation of our mission and these ideals never go out of style.
